Lori Ryan
Lori Ryan is a realistic acrylic artist who lives in Calgary, Alberta. A native of Blenheim, a small farming community in southwestern Ontario, she earned a Bachelor of Arts in English in 1990 from Brescia University College, (Canada’s only women’s University and affiliated with Western University). She then spent time in Japan and Germany before calling Calgary her home since 1995.
As a young woman, she was interested in art, writing and photography, but her journey instead took her on a career path in the financial sector. In 2017 life pivoted for Lori, and she took that opportunity to finally focus her energy on her first love – art. Initially she participated in various art classes through the City of Calgary, but she then focused on completing the Visual Design Certificate from University of Calgary, Continuing Education in 2021. She was also accepted as an “Active Member” of the Federation of Canadian Artists in 2022.
Throughout her life, Lori has always been inspired by the incredible and varying scenery of our beautiful country, Canada. From the rolling wheat and corn fields of Ontario and Alberta, to the crashing ocean waves of the East and West Coast, to the awing wonder of the Rocky Mountains, Lori photographs these stunning images, and then re-creates them in her own bold and vibrant, detailed style.
Lori Ryan Artist Statement:
“As a realistic artist, I strive to develop paintings that resonant with the heart and mind of my collectors. Utilizing photographs of my travels, I re-create these images in my own bold and vibrant, detailed style. Each painting requires time and dedication, along with a steady hand to re-produce the essence of the image. During that process, all my thoughts are laser-focused on the art piece. While landscape paintings are my main genre, I also enjoy producing animal portraits, cottage/homestead and vintage cars.”
