Jocelyne Watson - Glass Candy YYC
I've been an artist my entire life, trying many mediums from painting to sculpture and finally settling on glass, my medium of choice, in 2008. Being born and raised in Alberta has put me in the heart of the Rocky Mountains and the closeness to such profound natural beauty has become an obvious inspiration for much of my work.
As a self-taught glass artist, I've experimented with everything from brilliant colored dichroic glass jewelry, to home décor, to large scale glass wall art. Like the textures in nature, I want people to be able to experience my work in a tactile way; I want my pieces to be touched and discussed. Because I combine various techniques and multiple firings in the kiln, it can often take upwards of 100 hours to complete a single piece.
Nothing gives me more pleasure than surprising people with a piece of glass and then having a dialogue on the how and why. Even when similar techniques are used, each piece is original and one of a kind.” – Jocelyne Watson.
